What Is The Stokely Disc Golf Method™

Hey there, I’m Scott Stokely. If you’ve ever watched a pro’s throw in slow motion, gone out to the field to copy it, and come back with sore shoulders and the same old distance, this one’s for you. Let me explain what The Stokely Disc Golf Method™ is, and just as important, what it isn’t.

It isn’t a new way to throw

The Stokely Method™ doesn’t reinvent the throw. Every good teacher, every touring pro and I agree on the fundamentals: there’s a right way to throw a disc and a wrong way. What I teach isn’t a different destination. It’s a different way of getting there.

Why copying the pros holds you back

Watching a pro and trying to copy the finished throw almost never works, because your body isn’t their body. Your arm length, your hips, your shoulders and your old injuries are your own. If copying the pros worked as-is, I’d be sitting in a cubicle right now instead of teaching disc golf for a living.

So I don’t teach you to throw like me. I teach your body to throw its best: shots that go where you want, as far as your body can throw them, with less risk of injury.

One layer at a time

The Stokely Method is a step-by-step process I’ve refined over decades and thousands of players. We start with one step. Once you own it, we add the next layer. Some of those layers look strange if you only watch a lesson for ten seconds; you might think, “That’s not how the pros throw.” That’s on purpose. Each layer overcorrects a common problem, and together they walk you to a throw that’s powerful, accurate and yours.

Tips aren’t the Stokely Method

There’s a lot of good disc golf advice out there, including my own YouTube videos. Tips point you in the right direction, but they aren’t the Stokely Method. Putting the Stokely Method into practice is a back-and-forth: you get a specific thing to work on, you film yourself doing it, a coach or trainer watches and corrects you, and then you get the next layer. That feedback loop is what changes your throw.

Two ways to learn it

In person, at a seminar. Spend a full day in a small group with me or one of our certified coaches. We film your backhand, sidearm and putting at the start and the end of the day, and you get both videos afterward with notes to help the changes stick. Find a seminar near you.

Online, in the Stokely Flock. The Flock is the online home of the Stokely Method: my full course, Becoming A Complete Disc Golfer, form checks from certified Stokely Method trainers (usually within 48 hours), live sessions with me every other Tuesday, and a community of players working on their game. It’s $25 a month, and you can cancel anytime. Meet the Flock.

Either way, the promise is the same: you won’t learn to throw like me. You’ll learn to throw like the best version of you.
